My personal views are as follows, By Coug2wolfs:
There are two sides to guns. The side that we are on, we hunt with them and
they are a tool to harvest food.  Then there is the dark side. When guns are
turned upon man himself.
I have killed both man and beast. I still have sleepless nights over the tour
I did in Vietnam. But that was not my choice.  It was nothing more than
survival, kill or be killed.  But still, I often think, what of the women,
and children that no longer had a father, and it was my fault.  I had many
Vietnamese friends and had it not been for the Governments we had no reason
to hate one another. Of course this was all wrapped up in the name of
"Freedom" and so killing each other was not only blessed, it was encouraged.
I did not cry when the assault weapon bill passed. No argument, it was a
stepping stone of more to come.  But as I stated in my site, most people
don't harvest food with AK 47's and Thompson machine guns.  These weapons
were designed to kill people and that's what they are best at doing.  If a
person wants to punch holes in cans and paper with them who am I to say no.
When is the last time we read of a gun crime with a Remington 1100?  It's
uzi's and weapons of war that are used, or worse yet, a handgun that can be
used both ways.
But it's not really about guns. It's about what man has become and the
Government does not want to visit this subject for it is a large part of what
is wrong with society today. Punish the criminal, not the tools he uses to
perform the crime.
If and when they manage to ban all the guns crime will not stop. Long before
guns were invented man killed man with clubs, spears, and crude bows and
arrows.  It will not stop when there are no guns.
We as a people must focus on where the true problem lies, within ourselves.
And we need to bring this message to a place that can address this problem.
I for one do not believe it is the Government. Nor do I believe it is the
celebrity or the news media.  It has to be started in the individual home,
within the family.
Everyone has two paths to follow. Blame no one but thy self when the wrong
road is chosen.  Man must take responsibility for his actions. When he
doesn't, society should dictate what the punishment is to be for the CRIME,
not the WEAPON used.
